Great Travel Couples: Tiana and Shannon Harris, Power Couple Life

5 Minutes With Power Couple Life

For McCool Travel’s 120th travel profile, I am happy to introduce you to Tiana and Shannon Harris of Power Couple Life. In addition to their website and social media accounts, they run an amazing Facebook group called Let There Be Travel, which has over 10,000 members.

Power Couple Life‘s bio:

Tiana and Shannon are the globetrotting duo behind the travel blog, Power Couple Life. Before meeting Tiana in 2011, Shannon had never even left the US! With 7 states under his belt, he thought he was well traveled. By then, Tiana was on her 3rd passport, with over 20 countries under her belt, fluent in 4 languages, and a literal nomad with 28 past addresses. The rest is history! Tiana’s love of luxury travel, culture, adventure, photography, and writing rubbed off and Shannon would become her partner in crime, partner in travel from then on. Now they travel the world, experiencing new places one flight at a time, together.

Hometown…

Tiana was born and raised in the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, California and Shannon is from the 13th Ward in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shannon relocated to Las Vegas after losing his home during Hurricane Katrina.

Always in my luggage…

Before we were bloggers, we were photographers. So this means ENDLESS electronics and equpiment! Cameras, tripods, phones, laptops, GoPro, Phantom drone, chargers….SO MANY chargers. Our electronics usually are two carry-ons alone.

3 favorite home-away-from-home places…

Tiana is Italian, so she’s biased. Her home away from home is Northern Italy where she spent summers as a child or Weisbaden, Germany where her her family started a gelato business that has now grown to cover most big cities in Germany and Italy. Shannon’s home away from home is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic because he loves the laid-back, beach vibe and the friends he has made there.

A favorite travel memory is…

Hands down our favorite travel memory would be our wedding and safari in South Africa. We decided to go in February of 2016 for 3 weeks. The nights we spent at a safari lodge called King’s Camp in Timbavati was incredible. Seeing these wild animals upclose on a daily basis was breathtaking. While in Capetown we eloped on the beach surrounded by penguins and then dove with great white sharks.

3 favorite travel brands…

  1. GoPro – We love adventure so it is a MUST for our action shots and videos when we can’t take our big cameras.
  2. Delta Air Lines – our go-to airline that always gives us outstanding service.
  3. Kimpton Hotels when we travel in the US. They are dog friendly and always have immaculately clean hotels.

3 money-saving travel tactics I use are…

  1. Booking our own travel – we got licensed as travel agents in 2014 and have saved ourselves and friends we travel with a TON of money.
  2. Being spontaneous! We book flight deals spur of the moment (they are refundable within 24 hours) and we can always check our calendars later because they sell out fast!
  3. We use our Delta Amex card to earn miles. We earned a free first class roundtrip to Italy in a little over 6 months!

3 ways that I have fun while traveling are …

Fun for us means spa day after a long hike or horseback ride! We get off the beaten path, try to meet new people and eat with them at local hotspots and always find a few adrenaline filled adventures too.

8 word (or less) travel mantra…

Travel gives you an education a classroom won’t.

favorite non-travel website …

Amazon – we order way too much and too often. Great thing about it is you can have whatever you forgot to pack, delivered to your hotel room before you arrive (we do this allll the time!)

most memorable souvenir …

Our wedding photos from South Africa. We usually don’t buy much more than a postcard when we travel, but our wedding photos are definitely a wonderful souvenir.

favorite cheap eat …

Go to Grassa in Portland and order the Cacio e Pepe. Its life-changing. They handmake the pasta right in front of you, and its very affordable!

recent discovery …

We moved from Los Angeles to Austin in June of 2016 and fell in love with the outdoor fun it has to offer. One of our favorite things to do is tubing the Comal River. Grab a tube, a cooler of beer, and float away!

I am fortunate to have met …

Rachel from Rachel Roams, we met when we spent one day offline with Cathay Pacific and Mashable in upstate New York. She is an inspiration and truly genuine person.

I would like to meet …
