5 Minutes With Bente Vold Klausen

For McCool Travel’s 61st travel profile, I am pleased to introduce Bente Vold Klausen. Bente travels the world teaching and speaking about textiles from her home base in Norway. She operates a travel website with a great name: Travel With All Senses.
Bente’s bio:
“I am a textile artist and teacher/lecturer in textile, having taught textile all over the world for 30 years. I am founder and editor of a Scandinavian Quilt Magazine for the last 16 years. 2 years ago I started Travel With All Senses with the help of my husband Per. We are part time travel bloggers and travel as often as time permits us. We hope to be full time travel bloggers when we retire in 5 years. Just can`t wait!”

Hometown…
Fredrikstad, Norway
Always in my luggage…
A lot of camera gear and my laptop. Warm clothes and the most important—Norwegian crisp bread for breakfast to regulate my stomach.
3 favorite home-away-from-home places…
Greece for relaxing and sun and the tasteful food. Any country in Africa. I want to visit every country in Africa before I die! I love the nature, the people and the wild life.
A favorite travel memory is…
They are so many, but mountain gorilla tracking in Uganda with friends is certainly on top. Staying in a mud hut in Kenya for 3 days was also an adventure as was leading a sewing workshop in Zimbabwe. Going to different countries in Africa for the last years have been my best adventures ever!
3 favorite travel brands…

  1. Momondo—always help me to find airfares
  2. TripAdvisor—use it all the time
  3. Turkish Airlines

3 money-saving travel tactics I use are…
I have to admit that I do not think so much about that! But I do try to get the cheapest air fare.
3 ways that I have fun while traveling are…

  1. Always look for the best food opportunities.
  2. We always visit art exhibitions, craft fairs, and museums.
  3. Try to meet and hang out with the locals.

8 word (or less) travel mantra…
“Travel to get more knowledge of people and their culture and to get to know my self better as well”

http://www.cryptik.com Mystery and art can enlighten you life, just as travel can.
most memorable souvenir…
We always try to bring a piece of art back home. We now have a collection of African masks and sculptures. Each one of them is special and memorable.
favorite cheap eat…
pizza
recent discovery…
I have read so much about Costa Rica the last year, so I think we have to go there some time. The country looks very beautiful and also has wild life!
I am fortunate to have met…
My husband! We met as grown ups and are perfect travel companions.

Thank you very much, Bente.

  1. Wow, what an amazing job that you can combine with travelling! And I’m glad it’s not just me that collects African masks 🙂
