We stayed at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana during the Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras celebrations and loved the relaxed luxury vibe. I will tell you about a couple of surprises so read on.

Thank you to Lake Charles CVB for hosting us—our content is crafted so our audience can make informed decisions on future trips.

L’Auberge Lake Charles: Location

Lake Charles is close to the midpoint between Houston and Baton Rouge and also about half way between Beaumont and Lafayette. The L’Auberge Lake Charles resort is located on Bayou Contraband connecting to Prien Lake and Lake Charles, about 5 minutes from I-10. There is also a L’Auberge resort in Baton Rouge.

L’Auberge Lake Charles: Amenities

Experience relaxed luxury at the Spa Du Lac at L’Auberge Lake Charles. A perfect place to relax after a casino session (hope you are in the black), a round of golf, or exploring the amazing Lake Charles food scene. In addition to having a full range of spa and salon services, they offer a gentlemen’s de-stressing facial. I want to return just to experience that!

McCool Travel Tip: Look for specials like Massage and Lodge, Bed and Breakfast, and offseason rates.

The resort offers complimentary self and valet parking. The fitness Center is free for hotel guests. The pool and lazy river operate from 8am to 8pm.

L’Auberge Lake Charles guarantees the best rate on their website so if you see a lower rate elsewhere ask them to match that. AAA / AARP member rates are discounted 10% but offers and promos may be better (sometimes 20% discount). If you are a high roller, check current promotions for potential deals.

L’Auberge Lake Charles: The Grounds

Even though this is a casino resort, I found so much fun to do that I did not even step inside the gaming area. I saw the casino floor and many people in it, though, so I know it is there.

I did visit the beach, spa (only the hot tub and steam room), pool area, the adult pool area hot tub (McCool Travel tip: hotter than the spa location), and fitness center. Since my visit was in February, the beach and pool areas were pretty empty. One cool sight was seeing hundreds of burnt playing cards in the beach fire pit.

During the summer, the live music venue (1,400 seats) draws major musical acts. Another entertainment option is the Jack Daniels Bar & Grill with 165 seats.

Touloulou’s is an outdoor, fun, family-friendly party space, serving resort guests as well as public arriving mostly by boats.

Shopping is a highlight here, with some upscale retail shops. Visitors earn mycash points for money spent on stays, dining, activities, and more at this and several other family properties, which can then be redeemed for merchandise on their online portal.

For the ultimate golfing experience, try the Contraband Bayou Golf Club listed as a top 100 course by Golf Digest and on the America’s Best list by Golfweek. Discounted rates for hotel guests before 2pm.

L’Auberge Lake Charles: The Rooms

My L’Auberge room had a really comfortable bed and amazing pillows. When I mentioned to a manager how comfortable the pillows are, she said that they sell them.

I did not pursue the matter further (I should have!) but check their incredible shopping area to learn more.

L’Auberge Lake Charles: Dining

You already know that L’Auberge Lake Charles has 7 eateries so you will find somewhere to eat to match your mood. Even if your mood changes a couple of times a day, like mine does.

Ember is an upscale grill and wine bar; their ribeye tomahawk is remarkable. I do not include a photo of it, because I can not adequately represent its magnificence. Here are, however, other photos of some incredible food.

Favorite’s Southern Kitchen serves regional cuisine, including an amazing Southern chicken and waffles for breakfast. McCool Travel note: Another restaurant has replaced this one.

Modern Pantry offers gourmet grab and go items. Look for dining specials like Sip and Savor—on Tuesdays all wine bottles under $100 at Ember are half price.
