McCool Travel Tips from Travel Experts: Barbara Winter

McCool Travel is excited to present a new feature: interviews with travel industry giants, super frequent travelers, and adventurous persons.
For my first profile, I am thrilled and honored to present Barbara Winter. Barbara wrote the classic guide to successful self-employment, Making a Living Without a Job and leads empowering seminars such as Support Your Wanderlust and Establish Yourself As an Expert. I met Barbara at a conference a few years ago, attended two of her seminars this year in DC, and presented at her Joyfully Jobless Jamboree in October. Her stories are legendary with countless tales of her travels especially around Europe. She recently called herself a homeless, home-based entrepreneur but I was able to reach her at her new world headquarters in Valencia, California.

A favorite travel memory is…
On our first rainy morning in Dublin, my friend Georgia and I stood at the bustop trying to figure out how to get to the museum where we planned to spend the day. We were joined by an elegantly dressed elderly gentleman so I asked him which bus we needed to take. He gave us the information and then I asked a second question about the fare. “Do we need the exact change?” He nodded. Georgia and I began scouring our wallets, but neither of us had the proper amount.
Our new companion, dug in his pocket and handed us the correct change. We were both a bit surprised and began to thank him. Just then, his bus pulled up. The door opened, he gave us a smile and said, “Damsels in distress are my specialty.”
