On road trips, I seek out at least one bakery for morning breakfast treats.
I always try to find locally owned, independent bakeries rather than corporate chains.
On my recent South Florida road trip, in addition to the baked goods I found here and here, I visited a great European-style bakery in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
Kiss’s European Bakery offers primarily Hungarian baked goods. That suited me fine, as my grandmother’s family was from Hungary. McCool Travel note: Kiss’s is now closed.

That blueberry pastry was amazing. The other items were apricot.
Are you an independent or chain bakery person?
