Hometown…

Greater Boston area but grew up in sunny Southern California

Always in my luggage…

A little black dress and some statement heels. You never know when you will be invited to a lovely dinner or event somewhere. A bikini. What can I say… I’m a beach girl and you also might need one for the spa.

3 favorite home-away-from-home places…

  1. Turks and Caicos Islands
  2. Palos Verdes, California (where I grew up)
  3. Vancouver, Canada (where my family is originally from).

A favorite travel memory is…

Spending summers on Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman without a care in the world. We’d snorkel, swim, and play with our local island friends.

3 favorite travel brands…

  1. Tumi for my luggage
  2. Melissa Odabash swimwear for all of my tropical trips
  3. iPhone7 as my camera, translator, flight tracker, and more

3 money-saving travel tactics I use are…

  1. I always use a Virtuoso travel advisor for the best hotel rates and airfares
  2. I love shopping while abroad and make sure to get the VAT tax back for great savings
  3. I stay away from tourist spots and try to find more authentic, local experiences. I love checking in with the hotel concierge to get access to the best restaurants, theater, and attractions in town through their personal connections.

3 ways that I have fun while traveling are …

  1. connecting with local friends in cities I’m visiting
  2. not over-scheduling myself and letting each day surprise me
  3. shopping and finding cool, local designer brands I can’t find at home. Much of my wardrobe is from my travels abroad.

8 word (or less) travel mantra…

Eat well. Travel Often.

favorite non-travel website …

I’m addicted to the Daily Mail online

most memorable souvenir …

A CD of music by the Old Jazz Band from the Fairmont Peace Hotel. I wish I could go back in time in the 1930’s to hear my Grandfather perform with the hotel’s (formerly the Cathay Hotel) jazz band back in the day.

favorite cheap eat …

Cracked conch at Da Conch Shack in Turks and Caicos. Add some local hot sauce and dine with your feet in the sand, and I’m in heaven!

recent discovery …

That Terranea Resort in my hometown of Palos Verdes, California has a really cool falconry meet and greet program. Just one of the many unique experiences you can have while traveling.

I am fortunate to have met …

The oldest member of the Old Jazz Band, Zhou Wanrong, 96, at the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai this past summer who knew my Grandfather back in the 1930’s when my Grandfather performed there as a jazz singer. It was a very emotional meeting.

I would like to meet …

My Great-Grandfather, the first Chinese man born in Canada (Won Alexander Cumyow). He was a community leader in Vancouver, British Columbia and an incredibly interesting man. He spoke four languages and was an advocate for Chinese Canadians.
